The 2nd pianist may be the ensemble pianist OR another pianist of the student’s choice (teachers may play the 2nd piano).
Each pianist will be given one hour with the strings on the day of their audition to rehearse.
Feedback from the orchestral musicians will factor into the final decisions.
FAQ:

Q. May I perform with just two pianos?
A. No. All auditions must have the orchestral part performed by a string ensemble and a second piano (or just strings if a suitable arrangement exists).

Q. Who is responsible for the orchestral parts?
A. The string ensemble will use Mozart’s original string parts. The 2nd piano will perform from a usual 2nd piano part to cover any wind or brass solo sections. If the performer prefers the ensemble play from a transcription or arrangement (published or self-produced), the amended parts must be received by November 1, 2023 at the latest. If you are submitting different parts, hard copies only are accepted, no .pdf’s.

Q. May I submit my tempos in advance?
A. No. All tempi and transitions must be worked out in the provided rehearsal time. If you have substantial edits, it is advisable to obtain the string parts in advance (we can help) and mark them on the player’s pages in advance to save time. Edited parts must be received by November 1, 2023. Hard copies only.
